The Mourning Son – Magic Sword

The Mourning Son

The paladin Gilean was the most fervent disciple of the god Mordanon. Referred to as the Noon Day Sun, Mordanon represented all that was pure and good in the world. Patron saint of those who uphold the law of man Mordanon was everything that Gilean searched for in a deity.

Righteousness and justice were the way of the Paladins of Mordanon. Traveling the countryside preaching the gospel of the Noon Day Sun and holding trial for citizens who lived in lawless lands, delivering justice in accordance to their god.

Eventually, Gilean stopped hearing the words of Mordanon. Unbeknownst to Gilean, Mordanon was laid low in a war in the pantheon of gods. While Mordanon managed to survive his strength was meager and lacked the fortitude to reply to prayers. Gilean falsely recognized this as a sign his god had forsaken him. This did not sway Gilean from his virtuous path. For even though he witnessed some of the lands worst atrocities while he, in turn, gave up on his god he would not give up on the greatness of humanity.

Gilean eventually perished to old age having lived a life in servitude to his fellow man. He was interned by his order with this sword that became known as the Mourning Son. Mordanon continued to favor Gilean throughout his life. Even though he ceased to pray to his deity ceased, Gilean never stopped living the principles of Mordanon. As a reward for his devotion to humanity Mordanon granted immortality to Giliean. Unable to welcome Gilean’s spirit into Mordanon’s kingdom, Mordanon instead bestowed Gilean’s spirit into the blade of the Morning Son.

The Morning Son has since been carried by leaders of the Paladins of Mordanon who can be found in the vanguard of their crusades.
