A lavear is an elemental that left the plane of fire and made its home on the prime material plane. During the planar relocation process, the lavear lost its ability to take a humanoid fire form. Instead, the lavear adopted the form of a bear standing 8 ft tall on its hind legs or 4ft from paw to shoulder on all fours. This transformation also imbued the lavear with some traits of its earth elemental brethren, at times resembling lava with a hardened shell. The lavear’s eyes appear as molten globes of fire with a black pit where the pupil should be. Instead of a coat of hair, the lavear’s pelt is a cloak of black ash with wisps of white, and grey intermixed. Glowing red lines accent the lavear’s joints and hint at the heat residing right underneath its armored shell. Lavear’s are territorial and consider themselves the protector of the island they occupy. While ambivalent to intruders they do not perceive as a threat the lavear will become hostile to any creature that means to harm or destroy the lavear’s environment, such as clear-cutting trees to build farms. Because of this the area immediately surrounding a lavear’s cave is usually found in pristine condition.

Keen Smell. The lavear has advantage on Perception (Wisdom) checks that rely on smell.

Water weakness. Attacks based upon water deal 1 extra damage per attack to the lavear


Multiattack. The lavear makes two attacks

Bite. Melee weapon attack: +5 to hit reach 5 ft., one target. Hit 11 (2d8+2) fire damage. If the target is flammable it will catch fire and continue to take damage at 9 (2d6+2) per turn until the fire is extinguished.

Claws. Melee weapon attack: +5 to hit reach 5ft., one target. Hit 13 (3d6 + 2) slashing damage.

Molten breath (1 per day). The lavear can launch a stream of molten rock up to 45 feet in front of it. A creature struck by this stream must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw taking 10 (2d6+3) fire damage on a failed save or half of that on a successful one. If the target is flammable it will catch fire and continue to take damage at 10 (2d6+3) per turn until the fire is extinguished.
